Organ meat is very important to the overall health of your dog. Your dog's diet should consist of 5% liver and 5% other organs. Organs are where your dog will get the highest levels of essential nutrients. It is also a great source of protein. Organ meat provides several essential B vitamins including B12, B1, B2, B5, B6, as well as biotin and choline. It also contains Vitamin A, C, D, E, and K as well as omega fatty acids, zinc, and iron. These vitamins provide the optimal nutrition for your dog.
Liver is the most important organ meat for your dog. It is rich in vitamins and fatty acids. Liver contains some of the most concentrated levels of Vitamin A. Vitamin A is important for digestion and is also a powerful antioxidant. Liver also contains iron which is responsible for many functions in the body. Iron is important for oxygen transport and cell respiration. Liver has an anti-fatigue effect, which is likely to do with it's oxygen-carrying capacity. This can help increase your dog's endurance.
Kidney is another important organ meat. It contains several important vitamins and fatty acids such as: Vitamins A,E,K, B12, Iron and Zinc. These are all important in helping the digestive system and maintaining healthy skin and coat.
Heart is another good source of organ meat. Heart contains a very concentrated source of the supernutrient Coenzyme Q10. CoQ10 is important for the basic functioning of cells, as well as optimizing the heart's natural rhythm. Beef heart specifically, contains selenium, phosphorus and zinc, along with essential amino acids that help build muscle, store energy and boost stamina and endurance. The heart also contains collagen and elastin, which is important for healthy joints.
